iEARN Netherlands was first started in 1990. Since then, small scale projects have been done between individual schools and schools abroad. The International Education and Resources Network (iEARN) wants to help young people in learning authentically and independantly by means of worldwide communication with contemporaries and adults. The aim of iEARN-projects is to make an active and significant contribution to a sustainable development for the world and its inhabitants. Active learning within iEARN projects may vary from involvement in your own neighbourhood and community to student exchange and exchange of adults with the other side of the globe. Projects may take one day or may cover a period of many weeks; projects may happen once only or continue for several years.
iEARN Netherlands is part of the worldwide iEARN network with participants from over 130 countries. Building of this network started in 1989 and the iEARN network creates a forum and working community where educationalists collaborate with educational experts and experienced project managers within ICT projects. Teachers and students in Netherlands have participated in iEARN project work since 1990.
In June 2000, iEARN Netherlands centre became officially recognised. Our aim is to enlarge the entry of our teachers and students to projects of high quality and to guarantee support during international ICT-learning activities by means of ICT. iEARN Netherlands wants to support schools by offering and facilitating international ICT-projects, which can be joined easily. We support teachers by initiating, developing and performing projects.
By means of experimental project development iEARN Netherlands has a wealth of experience and a source of expertise based on pedagogically and didactically well-considered use of ICT within international and intercultural projects.
Within the iEARN network teachers have the possibility to develop themselves to appreciated experts in many fields.
By means of the iEARN philosophy, young people have their own role within iEARN, when they want and are approachable as partners with their own specific responsibility. Many young people from ‘the first iEARN generation’ are still active or approachable for iEARN projects after more than ten years.
